Capital Stockbrokers Limited is a licensed broker-dealer regulated by the Gambia Securities and Exchange Commission (GMX). We serve as your gateway to the capital market, offering expert services in buying and selling equities (shares), bonds, treasury bills, and other securities. We also provide investment advisory, portfolio management, venture capital support, and financial planning to help clients grow their wealth over time.

The capital market is where long-term financial instruments like stocks, bonds, and treasury bills are bought and sold. It’s where companies and governments raise money from investors to fund operations and growth. As an investor, the capital market gives you access to instruments that can grow your money through dividends, interest payments, and price appreciation.

Securities are financial assets that can be traded in the capital market. They include:

  • Equities (or stocks) – which represent ownership in a company
  • Bonds – which are loans you give to a government or company in exchange for interest
  • Treasury Bills (T-Bills) – short-term government securities with fixed returns
  • Mutual funds – pooled investment vehicles managed by professionals

Each type of security has its own level of risk, return, and investment duration.

Equities represent partial ownership in a company. When you buy shares, you become a shareholder entitled to a portion of the company’s profits (paid as dividends) and potential gains if the share price rises. For example, if you buy 1,000 shares of a company at GMD 10 each, and the price increases to GMD 15, you gain GMD 5 per share if you choose to sell.

Equities can be volatile in the short term but are ideal for building long-term wealth.

A bond is a debt instrument. When you buy a bond, you are lending money to a company or government for a fixed period. In return, you receive regular interest payments (called coupons), and your original investment (the principal) is repaid at maturity.

Example: If you buy a GMD 100,000 bond with a 10% annual interest rate and 3-year maturity, you’ll earn GMD 10,000 in interest each year and get your GMD 100,000 back at the end of the third year.

Bonds are generally less risky than equities and are excellent for investors who want steady income and capital preservation.

Treasury bills are short-term securities issued by the government to raise funds. They typically have tenors of 91, 182, or 364 days. Unlike bonds, treasury bills are sold at a discount and repaid at face value.

Example: You buy a 364-day treasury bill for GMD 95,000, and after a year, you’re paid GMD 100,000. That means you’ve earned GMD 5,000 in interest.
T-Bills are considered one of the safest investments because they’re backed by the government.
